Enrolment Agreements and Policy
MEDIA RELEASE AGREEMENT
This Agreement will be effective for the duration of the student’s enrolment at St Albans Secondary College. To withdraw this authorisation a written submission must be provided to the college.
St Albans Secondary College works closely with a variety of media and advertising agencies to showcase the College’s high standards in an appropriate fashion. Frequently, students photo’s or images of their work are required for inclusion in newspaper, on websites or in various forms of print or electronic media. The inclusion of a student’s photo or reproduction of their work requires parental/guardian authorisation.
I authorise St Albans Secondary College, and any person authorised by them, to reproduce, publish, broadcast and/or display:
- Photographs of my child/dependant
- My child’s/dependant’s name in print
- Video and/or audio recordings of my child/dependant deemed appropriate by St Albans Secondary College
- Photography and/or reproduction of my child’s/dependant’s, creative projects produced while in class with St Albans Secondary College.
- I acknowledge that my child/dependant and I are not entitled to remuneration or compensation in respect of our involvement of any project that was produced in whole or in part by us.
- I acknowledge that my child/dependant and I have no claims to copyright in any aspect or portion of the project and that any project shall be retained by St Albans Secondary College.
- I agree that the material may be used in all formats and media, as representations, reproductions or adaptations either complete or in part, alone or in conjunction with any wording or drawing.
MEDICAL CONSENT
In the event of illness or injury to my child whilst at school, on an excursion, or travelling to or from school; I authorise the Principal or teacher-in-charge of my child, where the Principal or teacher-in-charge is unable to contact me, or it is otherwise impracticable to contact me to: (cross out any unacceptable statement)
- consent to my child receiving such medical or surgical attention as may be deemed necessary by a medical practitioner,
- Administer such first aid as the Principal or staff member may judge to be reasonably necessary.
ICT USERS AGEEMENT / POLICY
ICT and the use of digital technologies now play a major role in most aspects of day-to-day life. So it is in education.
To maximise the efficient and productive use of Digital Technologies in the College, each user has a number of Rights and Responsibilities that they should be aware of and adhere to. This agreement sets out those Rights and Responsibilities.
STUDENTS RIGHTS AND RSPONSIBILITIES
Rights
- To have access to the College’s IT network, hardware (desktops, notebooks and portable devices as determined by the College’s policies), supporting equipment (including printers, cameras, etc.) and software that is appropriate to their studies.
- To have access to the internet, with filtering appropriate to their year level and studies.
- To receive IT Technician support for issues relating to connection to the college network and internet.
- To leave devices with a school technician for company pick up/repair if it was purchased through the schools recommended suppliers.
- To expect the network to be a safe and secure environment in which to work and learn.
- To have their privacy protected at all times.
Note: The school has the right to monitor access and review all use. This includes personal communications sent and received on computer/s accessing the school network/internet and/or network facilities at all times.
Responsibilities
- To ensure that their behaviour does not in any way damage or interfere with the College’s network or equipment.
- To ensure their device is brought to school each day, fully charged.
- To take all reasonable steps to safeguard their personal privacy and the privacy of others. Students should keep their network passwords confidential.
- To take all reasonable steps to safeguard their personal equipment.
- To use the College’s IT equipment and infrastructure in a legal and appropriate manner, and not attempt to nullify or negate any policies or procedures the College has in place.
- To be aware that all other users have similar rights to their own.
- To ensure they do not use their device to engage in any acts involving cyber bullying, threatening behaviour or denigration of others.
COLLEGE RIGHTS AND RSPONSIBILITIES
Rights
- To expect that all users understand their Rights and adhere to and accept their responsibilities.
- To deny access to the network and internet for any student who abuses their responsibilities.
- To manage the level of access to the internet for individual students to maximise the benefit to all members of the College community.
- To determine which digital devices are suitable for connection to the school’s network.
Responsibilities
- To take all steps to provide a quick, seamless, responsive and functional IT network and infrastructure, particularly during College hours.
- To put in place policies and procedures that safeguard user’s privacy, and secures their files.
- To put in place policies and procedures that monitor the IT network and infrastructure, which safeguard against illegal, inappropriate or destructive usage and which meet the monitoring requirements of the DET.
- To provide user support that relates to connection to the College network (including supporting devices such as printers), access to the College’s internet services and minor operational issues.
- To provide support for warranty repairs where a device was bought from one of the school’s recommended suppliers.
- To provide equity support to students who are financially unable to afford a personal digital device.
CONSEQUENCES
Where a student does not meet their responsibilities and their behaviour relates to:
- Disruption/damage to the network.
- Inappropriate use of the network (eg. viewing inappropriate content, cyber-bullying, gaming in class time, spreading a virus).
- Damage to college equipment.
- Theft or damage to devices owned by other students/staff.
The College will impose consequences which may include, but are not limited to detention, disconnection from the network, payment for any damage, and suspension. This agreement covers all student devices connected to the network, whether they are personally owned, or supplied by the school through the existing Netbook or equity programs.
INJURY CONSENT & CONFIRMATION

- Consent to my child receiving medical or surgical attention as may be deemed necessary by a medical practitioner.
- Administer such first aid as the Principal or member of staff may judge to be reasonably necessary.
ATTENDENCE POLICY
This Agreement will be effective for the duration of the student’s enrolment at St Albans Secondary College.
The aim of this policy is to encourage regular attendance at school by all students. For students to succeed at school and to achieve their potential, research evidence points to the need for them to consistently attend their scheduled classes, to be punctual to school & classes, and to actively engage in required work. The policy will apply to all students of the College.
Attendance requirements
- Students are required to attend school and all classes, except where compelling legitimate and serious reasons prevent such attendance.
- All students, at all levels, must maintain at least a 90% attendance rate in order to enable their promotion to the next year level.
- At Years 7 and 8 the 90% is determined by total number of days at school.
- At Years 9 to 12 it is determined by 90% attendance in each subject or unit of work.
- Exemptions or variations to this policy may be made for students with special circumstances
Implications of not meeting requirements of this policy
- If, due to excessive absences, a student does not comply with this policy, an interview will be held with the parents/guardians of the student to discuss the strategies to improve future attendance and/or pathway options available to the student for the following year.
- Students who do not achieve a 90% attendance rate will be deemed not to have satisfactorily completed the year level or subject/unit of work.
- At Years 7 & 8 this may result in the student not being promoted to the next year level.
- At Years 9 to 11, this policy will impact upon the student’s ability to pass units and ultimately on their ability to be promoted to the next year level.
- At Year 12, this policy will impact upon the ability of students to pass units and ultimately on their ability to gain their VCE/VET/VCAL certificate.
MOBILE PHONES
This Agreement will be effective for the duration of the student’s enrolment at St Albans Secondary College.
St Albans Secondary College understands that students may bring a personal mobile phone to school, particularly if they are travelling independently to and from school.
Policy
At St Albans Secondary College:
- students who choose to bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored in their locker during school hours
- exceptions to this policy may be applied if certain conditions are met (see below for further information)
- when emergencies occur, parents or carers should reach their child by calling the school’s office.
- all other devices MUST have notifications switched off during school hours
Definition
A mobile phone is a telephone with access to a cellular (telecommunication) system, with or without a physical connection to a network. For the purpose of this policy, “mobile phone” also refers to any device that may connect to or have a similar functionality to a mobile phone such as smart watches.
UNIFORM POLICY
This Agreement will be effective for the duration of the student’s enrolment at St Albans Secondary College.
All students of St Albans Secondary College are expected to wear full school uniform every day.
The uniform must be worn to and from school, at lunchtime and recess, and on all school excursions.
At all times the manner in which the uniform is worn will reflect pride in the College. This means that, the uniform:
- will be clean, in a state of good repair, appropriately fitted, worn without non-uniform garments being visible (only plain white t-shirts are acceptable to be worn under the school polo top or shirt).
- Students may wear the official school sports uniform to or from school if they have P.E. Period 1 or 6. No other sports clothes may be worn to or from school, or at recess or lunchtime.

By having a compulsory uniform the College aims to:
- promote a positive image of our school in the community,
- encourage a sense of pride and belonging amongst our students,
- identify our students as belonging to the College.
