Senior Sub School
Students entering Year 11 may choose to undertake either the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the Vocational Major (VM).
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
VCE is the certificate that the majority of students in Victoria receive on satisfactory completion of their secondary education. The VCE provides diverse pathways to further study or training at university or TAFE, and to employment.
Year 11 VCE students study 6 subjects. Each subject runs for 5 periods per week.
All students must study at least one of the following subjects:
- English; or English as an Additional Language (EAL) (for students who have been in Australia for 5 years or less); or
- Literature.
Vocational Major (VM) Program
VM is a hands-on option for year 11 and 12 students at SASC. The VM certificate gives students the opportunity to build employability skills, industry experience, personal development skills, and numeracy and literacy skills. The certificate is designed for students wishing to pursue a career pathway involving an apprenticeship, employment or TAFE.
VM is an exciting opportunity for students who enjoy challenges and applied learning. The VM students have access to the state-of-the-art VM centre, Nindethana.
The VM certificate will give students practical work-related experience and qualifications that will be recognised by TAFE institutes and employers. Together, these will help students move from school into work, an apprenticeship or traineeship, and/or further training at TAFE.
During the year, each student will complete:
- Structured Work Placement to gain experience in their chosen industry, establish industry networks, and increase employment opportunities.
- Vocational Education and Training (VET) vocational studies and nationally recognised training from either accredited state curriculum or national training packages within their VM certificate.
- Studies in Literacy, Numeracy, and Personal Development Skills & Work Related Skills to extend and improve their communication skills, reading, writing, numeracy, self-esteem, team work and leadership skills.
