Advance – Last Camp of the Year
From Wednesday 12 November to Friday 14 November, the Year 9 Advance students wrapped up their final camp of the year with an unforgettable three-day adventure along the stunning Great Ocean Road. We stayed at Cumberland River Holiday Park, where everyone pitched their own tents and quickly discovered what real camping feels like. The weather was wild at times, with cold winds and restless nights, but the campfire brought warmth, comfort and a strong sense of togetherness. Students showed incredible resilience, adapting to the conditions and supporting each other throughout the camp.
Surfing in Lorne with GoRideAWave was once again a major highlight. This was the group’s second surf program for the year, and their confidence really shone through. Students hit the water ready to go, building on the skills they had learned earlier in the year. There were plenty of wipeouts and laughter, but also some impressive pop-ups and long rides all the way to shore. The instructors were genuinely impressed with how far everyone had come.
Another big part of the trip was our visit to Live Wire Park. The high ropes course challenged students in all the best ways, putting their balance, focus and bravery to the test. Whether climbing, zip lining or crossing shaky bridges, everyone showed tremendous courage. Classmates encouraged each other through every moment, creating a supportive and exciting atmosphere high above the ground.
Back at camp, students took responsibility for cooking meals, organising equipment and looking after one another. Even the quieter moments—playing games by the river, relaxing together or warming up around the fire—became memorable parts of the experience.
Our final Advance Camp in Lorne was the perfect way to finish the year. It was challenging, exciting and filled with moments that the students will remember long after Year 9. The teamwork, resilience and growth they showed truly captured the spirit of the Advance program.
