Pride Month

This June SASC celebrated Pride Month. Pride Month is an incredibly important time for our SASC rainbow students and the wider school community. For our LGBTQIA+ students, it’s an important period of recognition, affirmation, and belonging. It creates a safe and inclusive space where they can see themselves reflected, celebrated, and understood, fostering a sense of pride in their identities. This visibility is fundamental for their mental wellbeing, helping to combat feelings of isolation and discrimination. For the wider community, celebrating Pride Month offers an invaluable opportunity to learn, understand, and show solidarity. It educates us on the history of the LGBTQIA+ rights movement, highlights ongoing struggles for equality, and reminds us that diversity enriches our community. By actively participating in Pride, we collectively commit to building a more accepting, equitable, and compassionate community for everyone, reinforcing that all members, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, are valued and respected.

In the lead up to Pride Month, we celebrated IDAHOBIT Day, shining a bright light on our rainbow students! It was heart-warming to see so many students come out to support our rainbow community, whether they were getting their faces painted rainbow stylez, striking a pose in our Pride Photo Booth, or waving a rainbow flag with pride and support.
A huge thank you to Brimbank City Council Youth Services for bringing all the fun and games, and a massive shout-out to our amazing VCE-VM and SRC students who organised such a fantastic event! And let’s not forget Mother Earth, who kindly held off winter just a little longer, gifting us those beautiful rays of sunshine that were truly the cherry on top of our rainbow sundae!
