Students Explore Their Future Pathways at ‘Find Your Purpose’
On Monday 1st April, A group of Year 10 & 11 students travelled into Melbourne’s CBD to take part in the ABCN ‘Find Your Purpose’ program, hosted at the head office of global consulting firm Accenture. The program was designed to support students in identifying their personal values, interests, and strengths, and to connect these to potential career pathways. Throughout the day, students worked closely with Accenture mentors in a series of workshops and activities aimed at helping them gain a clearer understanding of what success might look like for them.
Students found the experience both insightful and reassuring. Many reflected on how the program opened their eyes to the different paths they could take after school. “It gave me an insight into what I want to do in the future and my steps to do it,” one student said. Another commented, “It was worth knowing that a lot of people don’t have a straight career path… it’s reassuring knowing I am not restrained to a singular path.” Students appreciated learning how their values, personalities, and strengths could guide their decisions, and that career journeys are often non-linear.
The ‘Find Your Purpose’ program gave students valuable strategies for planning their futures while easing some of the pressures and uncertainties they are feeling. Experiences like this help equip our students with the confidence to pursue careers that align with who they are — and the flexibility to adapt as their interests and goals evolve over time.

On Track to Grow: A Great Opportunity
On the 25th of March, a group of our First Nations students together with two staff participated in the On Track To Grow program provided by the Victorian Government’s Training For The Future (TFTF) program at the Newport Transport and Infrastructure Hub. Students heard from First Nations men and women employed on many different aspects of transport and infrastructure delivery and service provision including rail staff, project and personnel managers and engineers. It was great to see out students engage with the presentations, learn about the rewards and benefits for themselves and the community that are associated with many of the roles they learned about and hear from inspirational First Nations men and women about their achievements in their chosen fields.
As with all such opportunities, the school encourages our students to seek further information from the school Careers Office and online and open up their job and career horizons.

Welcoming First Nations Families
In 2025, St. Albans Secondary College is seeking to expand engagement with First Nations students and their families by acting as a bridge to further study and careers opportunities, working closely with First Nations students and families to acknowledge their past and present realities, providing Wellbeing support services and undertake joint planning of the achievement of educational goals.
We were pleased to welcome First Nations families and the regional Koori Education Support Officer (KESO), Michael McCartney to the school on the morning of Wednesday 2nd April to participate in a morning tea, catered for the school by a local Indigenous-owned catering company. The morning tea saw great sharing of knowledge and ideas between some of First Nations families, students, the school and the Department of Education about local cultural and linguistic practice (as well as that from much further afield within Australia), opportunities for regular participation in local cultural groups (especially for older First Nations people), the variety of study and career options that are available for students to explore and strengthened the relationship between the multi-faceted role that the school plays and our First Nations family. It was truly humbling and pleasing to see the sharing of experience and knowledge that took place at this morning tea. This is the first of many occasions the school has planned for engagement with our First Nations families, and we look forward to extending further invitations to come to the school very soon.
