Middle School Report

As we near the end of term it is the perfect time to reflect on some of our successes. The middle school students have started to develop their organisational skills and are now checking compass, improving their punctuality and just generally taking greater accountability of their learning. The first round of progress reports has also just been completed so we encourage families to check compass and follow their students learning.

Earlier in the term the Year 9’s visited Funfields Theme Park. This team building day was incredibly successful with the Year 9’s having a very positive day out. The weather was perfect for the day as well with a warm sunny day. While there, the students had full access to the park including water slides, a wave pool and extreme rides. The students conducted themselves brilliantly and we were praised by staff at the venue for the exemplary behaviour of our cohort.

The Year 9’s have also recently completed their Morrisby Careers Guidance Counselling assessments and will commence the individual interviews early next term. This is the first step towards generating a careers profile for them and a process we will support them through until the end of Year 12, and often beyond. The cohort have also just completed their NAPLAN testing, and we eagerly await their results. A students NAPLAN result is usually a great indicator for their academic success moving forward and helps us better understand their learning needs. Combined with the Morrisby Careers program we will hopefully get an insight in potential careers for our students and help us prepare them as best we can.

The Middle School Coordination Team were lucky enough to be treated to a catered meeting by our Year 12 VET Cookery class. This is part of a broader expectation on several catered events that the class are required to host. The Year 12 VET class, under the guidance of Ms Daniela Karner, were fantastic and the food presented was at an incredibly high standard. With so many of our Year 10 students undertaking Food Studies this year we are hopeful that this trend continues long into the future. We’d like to publicly thank the class for their hard work and wish them the very best in their studies.

As always, we thank you school community for the ongoing support. Our students simply would not be as successful as they are without the guidance provided by our families. We encourage parents and guardians to attend our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences on 2 April with booking available through Compass. With the school holidays growing ever closer we’d like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break.
