The Year 9 MAV Maths Games Day comes to St Albans!
The end of Term 3 saw over 150 Year 9 students from schools across the state coming to St Albans Secondary College for a fun-filled day of mathematical problem solving and competition!
This is the third year in a row that St Albans Secondary College has hosted the Year 9 MAV Maths Games Day, with the students participating in a variety of activities including Team Problem Solving, Head-to-Head Games, and even a Mathematical Relay race.
The competition was fierce, with teams battling it out right until the end. SASC did well to hold our own against strong competition from private and selective entry schools, with one of our teams finishing in the top 10!
We thank all of the schools for coming along to enjoy the fun, and thank the teachers, including our own Maxine Nguyen and Gloria Yi, for their support in making sure the day was a success.
Think you’ve got what it takes to represent St Albans next year? See below one of the problems from the day. (The solution is at the end of the article).
Three regular polygons; a triangle, a square, and a hexagon, all have the same perimeter.
Write the ratio of their side lengths in the form a:b:c in simplest form, with a, b, and c being the side lengths of the triangle, square, and hexagon respectively.
See you all next year where we’ll aim to take out the top prize!
