Junior School Report

Welcome back for Term 2 from the Junior Sub School. It is pleasing to see so many of our students returning refreshed from the holidays and eager to commence work in Term 2.

We have had a very busy start to the year.  Of particular note in Junior School has been the Grade 6 Taster Day on 30 April.  On this day we had approximately 230 students from surrounding primary schools attend SASC for a sneak peek at the life of a high school student.  The Grade 6 students were understandably nervous but entered into the activities with great spirit.  This will set them in good stead for the transition to secondary school next year.

On the same day as the Grade 6 Taster Day, the Year 7 students attended Melbourne Zoo.  Whilst at the zoo they attended a workshop on animal adaption.  This workshop extended their classroom studies and provided an excellent opportunity to discuss adaption strategies with trained scientists as well as handle a number of animal skulls.  Students also attended 3 keeper talks at various enclosures within the zoo.  Of particular note was the snow leopard talk, where the adult female recently gave birth to 4 healthy cubs.

Many of our Junior School students were enthusiastic participants in the Multi-Cultural Day on 1 May.  It was great to see the pride that they showed in their cultural dress and the whole day went very smoothly.

The change in the weather is a good opportunity to check on uniform requirements.  Note that only school jumpers and jackets are to be worn to and from school.  Also, the uniform policy stipulates black school shoes must be worn at all times.  Black track pants are not school uniform.  Plain black pants of a similar style and fabric to the pants sold in the uniform shop may be worn.  Note also that the General Office sells plain white socks at a good price.

Progress Reports are due from teachers on 14 May and will be available for students and parents a few days later.  This is an opportunity to check on the academic progress and work habits of students.  Please read these reports on Compass when they become available.
