Yr 10 Geography Fieldwork Trip to Torquay
Our Year 10 Geography students recently enjoyed an engaging fieldwork excursion to Torquay, where they explored the stunning coastline at Bells Beach, Jan Juc and Torquay Main Beach.
Students witnessed firsthand the impacts of coastal erosion and investigated the range of soft and hard engineering strategies being used to protect the coastline from erosion and rising sea levels. The excursion also provided an opportunity to examine indicators of wellbeing for coastal residents, including access to recreational facilities, natural environments and essential services, while considering how the region caters for the thousands of tourists who visit each year.
A highlight of the day was a visit to the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery, where students discovered how chocolate is made, sampled some delicious creations and explored the positive contribution that food, tourism and enjoyable experiences can make to people’s wellbeing. The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with real-world geographical issues, while enjoying a memorable day along Victoria’s beautiful Surf Coast.
