English – Year 7

Our Year 7 students have made a wonderful start to the 2026 school year. It was a pleasure to officially welcome them to our school community at our first whole-school assembly, where they were warmly greeted by both staff and students.

Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and our students have embraced the transition with enthusiasm and confidence as they navigate new classrooms, meet new teachers, and build new friendships. It has been fantastic to see how quickly they have settled in and how positively they are engaging in their classes.

We are especially proud of the way they are already demonstrating and upholding the values of St Albans Secondary College in their first few weeks. Their positive attitude and willingness to get involved have been a joy to witness.

The students have made an exceptional start to their learning in English with the introduction of narrative writing in preparation for the upcoming NAPLAN testing. It has been an enjoyable experience to read the students’ stories, which showcase their vivid and quirky imaginations.

The Year 7 students have also been introduced to our new Accountable Independent Reading program in the library, which takes place once a week. This reading program gives students the choice of three books — Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Holes, and Hatchet — each accompanied by tailored booklets designed to enhance their vocabulary and comprehension skills.

We look forward to meeting parents and guardians at our Year 7 Expo on the evening of 24 February as we continue to build strong partnerships to support our students throughout the year. We wish our Year 7 students every success and happiness for the remainder of the year
