Debating Program

Debating Program Delivers a Thrilling Finish – After-School Event

On 27 November students gathered after school for a high-quality and fiercely contested debate on the timely topic: “Should the legal age of criminal responsibility be raised?”

The two teams delivered sharp arguments, thoughtful rebuttals, and impressive teamwork throughout the evening. On the Affirmative side were Xai, Kevin, Bao, and Phuoc, who argued passionately for change. Challenging them on the Negative side were Erica, Lina, Eleanore, and Karina, who presented a strong case for maintaining the current age.

The debate remained neck-and-neck from the opening speaker to the final rebuttal. It was Erica, closing for the Negative team, whose calm delivery and well-structured points ultimately secured the win for her team—by just one point in an incredibly close result.

Adjudicator Mr Marinelli praised all eight students for their clarity, confidence, and critical thinking in what they described as a very well-argued debate.

To top off the evening, the group celebrated with well-earned pizza, which was quickly demolished amid plenty of laughs and good vibes.

A fantastic effort from all involved and a great showcase of the talent in our debating program.
