ABCN STEM Innovators Program

Our Year 7 and 8 girls recently attended the STEM Innovators program organized by the Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN). They engaged in a design-thinking workshop at Fujitsu where they also had the opportunity to learn about their mentors’ career pathways in STEM. This was followed by two follow-up sessions at Scienceworks, where they applied their newly-learnt coding skills on Micro:bits to design, build and present a prototype solution to a challenge question. Here is what our students had to say about their experiences, as shared with the organizers.

‘it’s never the presenting or the solution that stumps you, it’ll be the several creative mind around you, suggesting incredibly unique ideas that’ll get you thinking and hooked.’

It was extremely fun for me experimenting with all the different situations and coding.’

‘It was worthwhile because it helped improve my critical thinking, skills, and creativity. Plus, I made some new friends and enjoyed the light works show.’

it helped me a lot, make new friends and exit my comfort zone.’

‘I was able to expand on my creative thinking.’

‘most useful thing i learnt from my mentors is to be comfortable and say out your ideas which is really helpful for me in the future.’

‘it was fun and i learnt a lot’

‘Because it was engaging and exciting.’
