It was heartwarming to return from Long Service Leave and see such a positive and focused atmosphere across the Senior Sub School. I’d like to commend our students for a smooth and settled start to Term 3. Their engagement, behaviour, and readiness to learn are a credit to them, and we look forward to a productive and successful term ahead.
I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to Mr Matthew Olthof for stepping into the role of Sub School Leader during my absence, Ms Laura Gough as Assistant Sub School Leader, and Mr Pat Lac in his role as Year Level Coordinator. Their leadership and dedication ensured a positive and well-supported environment for our students through to the end of Term 2.
We are pleased to welcome Mr Pat Lac back to the Senior Sub School later this term while Mr Sean Ryan is on leave.
Last term was filled with a variety of engaging and enriching experiences for our students. Below are some of the highlights.
Victorian Careers Expo
On Friday, 16 May, our Year 11 students attended the Victorian Careers Expo at Flemington Showgrounds, providing them with the opportunity to explore a wide range of post-secondary school pathways. Students engaged with representatives from universities, TAFEs, and industry, to help them make informed decisions about their future study and career options.
Potting Day at Iramoo Grasslands
On Saturday, 17 May, a group of Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students contributed to a local environmental sustainability initiative by helping organise a Potting Day at Iramoo Grasslands in Cairnlea. Working alongside community members, the students braved the rain and freezing weather and re-potted over 1,000 native plants to be returned to the grasslands, aiming to improve biodiversity within our local community. A productive and rewarding way to spend the weekend!
Biggest Morning Tea
The Biggest Morning Tea, held on 23 May in collaboration with the VET Cookery class and Year 12 VCE VM students, was another standout event. It brought staff together for a worthy cause, raising $313.25 for the Cancer Council. A huge thank you goes to the ‘silent supporter’ who generously matched our total, bringing the overall funds raised to a total of $616.50.
100 Days of Success
A significant milestone was the Year 11 cohort celebrating 100 Days of Success in their VCE journey. Students were recognised for their hard work and dedication with a celebration that included a surprise performance, student awards, and light refreshments. Congratulations to all Year 11 students for reaching this important achievement.
Practice Exams
During the Term 2 holidays, Year 11 and Year 12 students completing a Unit 3/4 subject participated in practice exams conducted under conditions that closely mirrored the official VCAA examination environment. This experience provided valuable insights into exam timing, expectations, and stress management. Students received constructive feedback from their teachers to guide their revision and improve performance ahead of their final assessments. We were pleased with the attendance and determination shown by students during this preparation phase.
Youth Day
This term, we were excited to celebrate Youth Day, an extended lunchtime event organised by our Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students. The day featured a range of treats including fairy floss, an ice cream van, popcorn, slushies, donuts to name a few, as well as musical performances and a variety of games and activities, creating a fun and inclusive atmosphere for the school community.
A sincere thank you to the entire school community for contributing to the day’s success through positive behaviour and enthusiastic participation. Special thanks to Mr Jennings and all the staff volunteers who courageously took part in the dunk tank—you helped make the day truly memorable!
We wish our students a happy and successful Term 3. We encourage all our students and their families to speak to their coordinators if they have any questions or concerns.
