Year 9 Advance Students Cook Up a Storm on Trangias

During week 2 and 3, the Year 9 Advance class had their first go at cooking on a Trangia — and the results were as fun as they were flavourful!

As part of preparing for their Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey, students learned how to safely set up and cook using a portable camping stove. While some were a little nervous at first, the excitement quickly kicked in once the noodles hit the pan.

The classroom turned into a mini outdoor kitchen as groups worked together to get their Trangias going. From spicy Korean noodles to classic chicken flavour, it was interesting to see the wide range of noodle types students brought in. Everyone had their own twist — some added extra seasoning, others tossed in vegetables, and a few even combined flavours to make something entirely new.

There was plenty of laughter, some minor fuel spills (quickly cleaned up!), and a lot of proud faces as students tasted the food, they cooked themselves. For many, it was their first time using a Trangia, and the hands-on experience was both practical and memorable.

Cooking in class might not be the usual thing, but this activity definitely spiced up the week. It was a great introduction to outdoor skills and teamwork — and who knew cooking noodles could bring so much energy to a room?

Well done to all the students for giving it a go and making the most of it!
