SEAL Parent Information Night – 22 May 2025

On 22 May 2025 St Albans Secondary College hosted our annual SEAL Parent Information Night. At the start we were served with amazing refreshments by Ms. Karner and the VET year-12 students. We then saw the first act of the night: a passionate debate between year-8 and year 9 SEAL students about a topic chosen by them ‘Social media and safety online’. This debate went on for about 10 minutes. We were then called on to take our seats and were entertained by Mr. Tuan Le on his acoustic guitar. The magical sound of guitar set the stage for Tiana Stepanovski who gave us beautiful rendition of two songs: ‘Can’t help falling in Love’ and ‘The Winner takes it All’.

Ms. Janet McKenzie then warmly welcomed all parents and guests on the night, followed by Mr. Ly’s and Ms. Lee’s short presentation on the features of our SEAL program. We were then introduced to the three inspiring speakers on the night: Lani Nguyen, Anthony Tran and Maybel Verma, who took turn to speak for about 7 minutes each. These speakers were ex-SEAL students at St Albans Secondary College, who graduated in 2018, 2022 and 2024 respectively. Their ATARs range from 99.60 to 99.85. Anthony was one of the 30 Premiers’ Award winners in 2022, who is also the winner of a scholarship from Melbourne University worth about $100k. Lani is now a profession lawyer at the law firm Corrs Chalmers and WestGarth and Maybel is preparing to enter Melbourne Uni to study Medicine. It was unbelievable to see these three ex-SEAL students and hear them speak about their personal experiences at our St Albans Secondary College, and their life journey after high school. The night ended with many SEAL students being presented with Leadership, Academic Excellence and Integrity Awards by the three guest speakers.

It was an unforgettable night for many of us SEAL students at St Albans Secondary college. Thanks to Mr. Thach Ly and all the staff at SASC who have organised this wonderful event.
