Year 9 Advance Program

Year 9 Advance Class Embarks on the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

The Year 9 Advance Class has officially embarked on an exciting journey as they begin their Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for Bronze. This marks the start of a rewarding program that will challenge students to develop new skills, build resilience, and embrace adventure.

One of the first skills students are honing is tent pitching, an essential skill for their upcoming camp in Warrnambool in Week 5. Practicing how to set up a tent properly ensures they are well-prepared for outdoor living and teamwork during their expedition. This hands-on experience is already proving to be a valuable learning opportunity, fostering collaboration and problem-solving skills among the group.

In addition to their expedition training, students have been diligently setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goals for the different aspects of the Award. For their Physical Recreation component, they have chosen activities that challenge them physically, encouraging fitness and perseverance. Their Skills section is focused on personal development, with students selecting new hobbies and interests to refine over time. Meanwhile, the Voluntary Service component sees them giving back to the community in meaningful ways, reinforcing the values of leadership and responsibility.

With a strong start to the year, the Advance Class is looking forward to 2025 with enthusiasm. As they work towards achieving their Bronze Award, they are building not only valuable life skills but also lasting memories. Stay tuned for more updates on their journey!
