From the Principal Class Team

A Note from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

At St Albans Secondary College we value the diversity of culture, ethnicity, and faith of all our students. We are proud of our diversity, and everyone is welcome at our school.

There have at times been racist incidents that have not supported these values. This has included the use of racist language, slurs and putdowns. This behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated at our school. We always take immediate action as part of our commitment to make our school a safe and inclusive place for everyone.

Celebrating the diversity of our community makes us stronger, kinder and innovative. We are committed to ensuring that students from all backgrounds feel accepted, supported and are empowered to learn.

St Albans Secondary College has taken, and will continue to take, steps to ensure the school is a place free of racism and where everyone feels connected, respected and protected.

You can read about the school’s effort to prevent and respond to racism on our website here .

To achieve our values and aims, everyone at St Albans Secondary College plays an important role, and we are writing to ask for your support.

We ask that you support your child/ren to:

  • – understand that we celebrate diversity and multicultural inclusion
  • – understand the importance of everyone at school being treated with respect
  • – understand that SASC takes racism very seriously
  • – understand that the school will support students if they experience or see their classmates experience racism

Your partnership in reinforcing these values at home will significantly help create a more respectful and inclusive environment at school. For more information, please see the Raising Children Network and their work on “Talking to Kids about Racism“.

If you or your child/ren have experienced racism or other unfair treatment, SASC is here to help. Talk to your child’s Year Level Coordinator in the first instance. They can help you understand the school policies, access support and make a complaint.

If you don’t feel comfortable reporting the incident to the school, you can call or email the Report Racism hotline. The Department of Education runs the Report Racism hotline. It is available from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) on 1800 722 476 or via email at report.racism@education.vic.gov.au.

If you need an interpreter to call the school, please use the details available at: Guide for Families: How to Use an Interpreter to Contact your School.

Thank you for your help and support.

Facilities Update

We have been given the go-ahead to proceed with our long-awaited upgrade of the Wellbeing Office. This will involve the construction of 2 new classrooms in the F-Wing, and some changes to the main staff room.

The main change will be the conversion of 2 D-wing classrooms into a larger and better fit for purpose Wellbeing Centre.

Works should commence in the next 2 or 3 weeks and be completed by the end of Term 1 2027. During construction there will be noise and some inconvenience, so we appreciate everyone’s support as we work through this.

SSV Track and Field State Championships

Congratulations to Brandon Cvetanoski, Hakeem Bala, Hung Do and Lawson Vo who won the Gold Medal in the 4 x 100m Under 17 Relay with a time of 45.46 sec. This is the first time in many years that a team representing the school have won a state title.

Well done to the boys and the staff who supported them. What a fantastic effort!!

Whole School Assembly

It was wonderful to celebrate our Year 12 cohort and wish them well as a whole school community on their final day at St Albans Secondary College.

Our Whole School Assemblies are an important part of the school calendar, bringing students and staff together to celebrate achievements, recognise contributions, and strengthen our sense of community. This assembly provided an opportunity to farewell our Year 12 students, celebrate individual student achievements, announce the House Cup winner, and enjoy performances from several of our talented student bands.

The assembly included a number of important traditions, including a Welcome to Country delivered by Wurundjeri Elder Unclu Colin Hunter Jrn Jrn and the formal handover to our incoming student leaders. Both outgoing School Captains, Stephanie Truong and Josephine Mai, and incoming School Captains, Nazrawit Costantinos and Ezekiel Ong, addressed the school community. It was clear from their reflections that they share a strong commitment to our College values and a genuine desire to make a positive contribution to our school community.

We also extend our congratulations to all students who were recognised or received awards at the assembly (detailed below). Their efforts and achievements are a testament to the talent, commitment and determination of our students.

The farewell of the Year 12 cohort is always a significant milestone. As they conclude their secondary schooling and prepare for their final examinations and future pathways, we thank them for their contribution to our College and wish them every success in the opportunities that lie ahead.

A special congratulations to our graduating students and thank you to the staff and students whose efforts made the assembly such a memorable occasion.

Finally, thank you to our Facilities and Music teams, whose work behind the scenes ensured the smooth running of the event. Their efforts, together with those of many staff and students, helped make the occasion such a memorable one for our Year 12 students and their families.

Fashion Awards Australia and Australian Gown of the Year Schools’ Competition

Congratulations to all students and staff involved in the recent Fashion Awards Australia and Australian Gown of the Year Schools’ Competition.

As part of our Whole School Assembly, students showcased their garments and designs in a fashion parade, providing the school community with an opportunity to celebrate the creativity, innovation and technical skill of our young designers. The parade highlighted the outstanding work produced by our students and recognised the significant effort involved in bringing each design to life.

Once again, the event was a tremendous success for St Albans Secondary College, with the College being awarded the John Carringbold Cup as the top design school. This marks an extraordinary ninth consecutive win, highlighting the sustained excellence, creativity and dedication of our students and staff.

The competition provides students with an opportunity to apply and demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed through their design studies while showcasing their creativity to industry professionals and the wider community.

We congratulate all students who entered garments in the competition and thank the staff who supported them throughout the design and production process. Their dedication, hard work and commitment to excellence continue to strengthen the reputation of St Albans Secondary College as a leader in design and creativity.

Winning the John Carringbold Cup for a ninth consecutive year is a remarkable achievement and reflects the outstanding quality of work produced by our students and the expertise and commitment of our teaching staff. Well done to everyone involved.

The student recognition Prize is awarded at the end of each year to a student from each Sub School who exemplifies the school values of Respect, Integrity, Leadership and Excellence; this includes having over 90% attendance, always behaving respectfully to other students and staff and in accordance with expectations including always being punctual.  The students who were drawn from the pool of those eligible for each Sub School are:

These students each received an iPad as a prize. Well done to all the students who were in the draw for the Student Recognition Prize.

The Crocker House Cup

One of the highlights of the assembly was the presentation of the Ian Crocker House Cup, awarded annually to the House that has demonstrated outstanding achievement and participation throughout the year.

Congratulations to Rosewall House, the 2026 winner of the Ian Crocker House Cup. This achievement reflects the collective efforts of students who have embraced opportunities across academic, sporting, cultural and community activities throughout the year.

We were pleased to welcome Mr Ian Crocker, former Assistant Principal and the namesake of the award, who presented the Cup to the winning House. We thank Mr Crocker for attending the assembly and for his ongoing connection to St Albans Secondary College.

Class of 2026

Congratulations to the Class of 2026. As you prepare for your final examinations, interviews and post-school pathways, we wish you every success in the opportunities that lie ahead.

Throughout your time at St Albans Secondary College, you have contributed to our community in many different ways and have helped shape the College we are today. We are proud of your achievements and the resilience, growth and determination you have shown during your secondary school journey.

While your time as students may be coming to an end, you will always remain part of the St Albans Secondary College community. We look forward to hearing about your future accomplishments and hope to welcome many of you back in the years ahead through our alumni program.

On behalf of the entire College community, congratulations and best wishes for the future.

Big Day In

It was a pleasure to welcome Year 6 students from our feeder primary schools to St Albans Secondary College for our annual Big Day In.

The Big Day In is an important part of our transition program, providing future Year 7 students with an opportunity to experience life at the College, meet staff and peers, and learn more about our values and supports. The day is designed to help students feel connected, confident and supported as they prepare for their move to secondary school.

Throughout the day, students participated in a range of activities within their 2027 House groups. These activities encouraged teamwork, helped students form new friendships, and provided opportunities to begin building connections with their future school community. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and positive participation shown by students across the day.

We look forward to welcoming these students back next year as members of the St Albans Secondary College community.

A special thank you to our Wellbeing and Transition teams for their planning and organisation. Their work ensures our incoming students have a positive and successful start to their secondary school journey.

Exams

The upcoming exam period is an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and reflect on the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout the year. Year 11 exams will commence on 4 November, with Year 9 and 10 exams beginning on 18 November.

Attendance at all exams is compulsory. If a student is absent due to illness, a medical certificate must be provided.

To ensure a fair and productive examination environment, students are expected to follow all exam requirements, including arriving on time, bringing the required materials, and following staff instructions throughout the examination period. Detailed information regarding exam expectations has been communicated to students through assemblies and will also be available on Compass.

Families can play an important role in supporting students during this time. Encouraging a consistent study routine, providing a quiet space for revision, ensuring students maintain healthy sleep habits, and promoting a balanced approach to exam preparation can all contribute to student success.

We wish all students the very best as they prepare for and complete their examinations.

Year 12 Graduation and Awards Evening

The College was delighted to host our annual Graduation and Awards Ceremony for the Class of 2026 on Friday 16 October, held at Flemington Racecourse. The night was filled with inspiring speeches, music from our students and staff, the celebration of awards and a fabulous video montage created by our senior leaders.

Our guest speaker and former student, Mursal Rezai shared her inspiring journey from arriving in Australia as a refugee in 2018 to graduating from the College in 2021. Now in her final year of a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business, majoring in Finance, at Swinburne University of Technology, her story is a powerful testament to resilience, determination and the importance of taking every opportunity that comes your way. During her time at university, she has been the recipient of many prestigious leadership awards and is currently working as a Legal Assistant at Victoria Legal Aid in its Summary Crime team.

A special congratulations to our major award recipients:

We congratulate all VCE and VCE-VM students of the Class of 2026 on their outstanding accomplishments. We wish them every success in their future pathways. To those students undertaking exams over the coming weeks, we know you will give your best effort and continue to make us proud.

A heartfelt thank you to the Senior Sub School Team for their exceptional organisation of this event, and to all staff who volunteered their time to support our students on this memorable occasion.
