The past few weeks have been a busy and brilliant period for our Middle Sub-School students and staff! We’ve had a range of activities, awards and opportunities that have supported the development of our students both personally and academically.
In the week between exams and work experience, our Year 10 Proactive Programs ran. These provided students with the opportunity to develop skills beyond the classroom through a range of workshops focused on fun, personal growth, wellbeing and future pathways. Students embraced the chance to explore new interests like jujitsu, dance, meditation, singing, financial management and career planning, while building valuable skills that we hope will support them both at school and beyond. We’d like to extend our thanks to all the teaching and ES staff that make this week possible.
Close to 200 of our Year 10 students have also completed their Work Experience placements, representing SASC in real workplace settings. Feedback from employers was overwhelmingly positive, with students demonstrating responsibility and enthusiasm throughout the week. A big shout out to our incredible Careers team for their work organising placements and ensuring students were well prepared for this important week. It’s because of them that SASC is one of the few schools in the area to offer work experience to our students.
Planning for the future has also been a major focus, with Year 9 and Year 10 students completing their 2027 course selection process. After parent information evenings, in-class information sessions, course counselling and individual support offered by YLC’s, students chose their preferred programs of study for 2027. We appreciate the work of our Careers team (again!) and teaching staff in guiding students through this process.
We also recently celebrated the achievements of our students during our Year Level Assemblies, where Academic Awards were presented to students who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and achievement throughout the semester. Congratulations to all award recipients on their hard work and dedication.
Positive behaviour has also been recognised through our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) raffle, with students earning entries by consistently demonstrating our school values. It has been fantastic to see so many students acknowledged for making positive choices and contributing to a respectful learning environment.
Looking ahead, our Year 9 students are preparing for the annual City Experience program, where they will explore some of Melbourne’s most significant cultural and educational attractions. This week is one of the highlights of the middle school calendar and we can’t wait to check out this year’s new activity: Luna Park!
