Welcome back for a busy Term 2. We trust everyone had a relaxing break, and students are ready for a busy Term 2, with exams, reports, work experience and many more things on the Calendar.
Welcome back staff who were on leave Term 1 – Mr. Rod Bear and Mr. Victor Vu.
We would also like to welcome our new Speech Pathologist. Ms. Alessandra Oliva
Facilities Update
Our new electronic gate for the carpark and pedestrian gate is now operational.
The ramps project progressed well, and we are hopeful these new ramps will be open for use shortly.
Anzac Day Service
The College commemorated ANZAC Day this year on the 23 April 2025. Students, staff and special guests gathered to remember and pay their respects to those who have served in the armed services. We hold this service annually in honour of the anniversary of when Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on the beach at Gallipoli in Turkey on 25 April 1915. Thank you to our VCE-VM students and staff who organised this event and a big thank you to our special guest alumni Corporal Laurence Gatt and Paul Terawskyj who joined us for this very important day in our College calendar.
We are better together week
We are Better Together Week is held at the start of Term 2 and celebrates our diversity as a College. This week is a celebration and a reminder that we are stronger when we work together. To mark this occasion, we had a performance from First Nations dance troupe – Indigenous Outreach Projects. We also had performances from our student Pasifika Cultural Group as well as a Lion Dance Troupe. The week culminated in a fantastic student led Multicultural Day. Students sold food from different countries and were able to wear cultural dress from their country. It was a wonderful week that really showcased the diversity and strength of our students.
The Importance of Attendance
We have been working with all our students to reinforce the importance of Attendance. Research tells us that high levels of attendance at school are closely linked with successful student achievement. Ensuring your child attends school every day is one of the best ways you can help your child’s future. Our Attendance Policy requires that all students maintain an attendance level of 90% over the year in order to successfully pass each subject. Students who do not meet this requirement are at risk of not being promoted to the next year level. Even at this level (90%), students miss one day a fortnight. This adds up to four weeks a year – a significant amount of learning. You can access your child’s attendance rate via the Parent Portal on Compass. We also send an email out to families twice a term to give you updates on your child’s attendance. If you need support regarding attendance, please talk to your Coordinator.
Seeking Feedback from Parents – Assessment and Reporting Practices
As we begin a new term, it’s important for students to review their Prepared for Learning goals to set themselves up for a successful term. This is a great time for students to establish clear learning goals and routines that will support their academic progress and wellbeing needs throughout the term. Teachers are working to create focused, supportive classroom environments where there are more opportunities for student voice and agency, and we encourage parents to help at home by ensuring students are prepared each day—well-rested, organised with all equipment, and ready to learn.
This year, we are reviewing our assessment and reporting practices. As part of this review, we are seeking feedback from parents. We appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions and thank all parents who have already completed the survey. If you haven’t done so, we ask that you take a few minutes to complete the survey using the link below. It’s important that we have good representation from our parent body.
Melbourne Zoo
Our Year 7 students recently attended the Melbourne Zoo to investigate animal adaptations; conservation and the impact humans are having on a variety of species. The cohort were incredibly positive in their representation of the college, and it was an enjoyable day for all involved.
A special thanks to Ms Lillian Lee for the organisation of the excursion, the Junior Sub School for their assistance in following up student permissions and all staff involved on the day.
