The EMA provides financial assistance to families on a low income. This assistance helps with the cost of essential educational items such as textbooks, stationery, uniforms and excursions for children up to 16 years of age.

EMA is a means-tested payment. Parents must hold a valid Centrelink/Veterans Affairs concession card to be eligible, and the card must be presented when submitting the application. Parents/guardians must submit the completed EMA application directly to the school.

The EMA is paid in two instalments annually; 70% in March and 30% in August.
